Almost a month ago we got the sad news that Braylon would have to stay with us past March 16th, the anticipated return home date. We had gone so far as to pack up toys and belongings and slowly send them home at each visit, but had to slam on the breaks when the judge said she would not allow a trial home visit just yet.
Well today court met again to discuss the "fate" :) of Braylon's departure. This time the Guardian Ad Litem, the case worker, his parents and the judge seemed to all be on board. Enough information was gathered and enough work has been done by his parents that the judge ruled today that Braylon would infact return home on the 13th. He will have one more overnight visit this weekend and then we'll pack him all up and give him back to his parents for keeps on the 13th.
Kurt and I have been looking forward to this day for a month and I know Braylon has been looking forward to this day for 5 months. So to celebrate Braylon and I made a chain to help him count down the days until he gets to go back home. 11 days!
I am really excited for Braylon. I'm excited for his parents who are trying hard to right their wrong, and I'm excited for this new phase to focus on the family Kurt and I are building together. When Mandy (Braylon's mom) called me to tell me the good news for some reason I felt a few tears find their way in my throat and eyes. I knew this day would come and his is a face I will never forget.
I think what Braylon will miss the most isn't me or Kurt, it's all the kids in the neighborhood he loved playing with. Everytime he looked outside and saw kids playing (no matter the age) he asked if he could go out and play with them. He thrives off of play time with others.
So now we have to try and get as much fun in as we can handle before he goes. Story Time at the Library, the Zoo, play at friends houses... Just 11 days.
