I know that I am one of the worst for constantly telling my younger sister how to run her dating life. I mean I am an expert. I did marry the most dashing man around. That’s got to count for something right? When she asks, and sadly sometimes when she doesn’t ask, I willingly share my wisdom about how to get the right guy and keep him interested.
There are a lot of people who know just the perfect trick to having kids, just as I know how to find Mr. Right. I mean they do have kids and so they must be doing something right. Kurt and I are often the beneficiaries of such expertise. Over the years I’ve heard some pretty interesting “You should try” advice for getting pregnant.
1. Try drinking pure cream
2. Try to not eat white flour
3. Try not to run or exercise
4. Try to keep your weight in check because it’s harder for overweight women to get pregnant (so can I do this with #1?)
5. Try a progesterone patch
6. Try Chinese tea (Is this against the Word of Wisdom?)
7. Try abstinence for a period of time (maybe I don’t really understand how to get pregnant)
8. Try seeing a hormone doctor
9. “Try” when you see the vaginal mucus
10. Try clomid
11. Try the HSG test to unblock your tubes
12. Try and unblock the bad energy that is keeping you from getting pregnant (I know I’m mental)
13. Try eating more soy, wheat and avocados
14. Try not thinking about it (this seems to be the advice for just about everything)
Pretty good list I would say. I have tried many of these fabulous ideas but I have to admit some just make me giggle. What do you recommend or what other fun things have you heard of? Maybe we can find the cure or just make a really long, yet entertaining list.

How bout this...
"try" on the odd days one month and if that doesn't work "try" on the even days the next
Man! That list just stresses me out. And stress is probably an inhibitor, eh? You are good sports. I appreciate your sense of humor. I'd probably get kinda bugged.
Wow. I never received that much advice and hadn't heard of most of your list.
I've heard that eating chocolate makes you more fertile... if not, at least its a good reason to eat chocolate every day. =)
don't you love how so many of these contradict each other? we were told by someone to stop drinking soy milk (sorry #13). my chiropractor thinks it's all a matter of our spines being misaligned, so you can add that one too. i think kurt's got the best idea so far.
Buy a new car you can only afford payments on if your husband AND you are working. Worked like a charm for us!
The problem with #4 is that the opposite is also true: it can be hard for underweight women to conceive as well.
#10 (Clomid) is a double-edged sword. It works for a lot of women. It forces ovulation, which is good, but it also can dry out your cervical fluid. Sperm depends on cervical fluid to stay alive long enough to reach an egg. Without the right consistency fluid, the sperm won't last.
When I first got married, I put on a ton of weight because of hormonal birth control. Nine months after first starting it, I stopped, and I haven't been back on since (over five years). I stayed not pregnant when I wanted to, and I got pregnant on the first try each time I wanted to. When we made the decision for me to quit taking the Pill, we went and bought the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility, and learned about the Fertility Awareness Method of natural family planning. It's more than the rhythm method (tracking start days), in that it teaches you how to read your body's ovulatory signals. You don't always ovulate on the same day of your cycle each month, but once you get the hang of this system, you can know (pretty well, though not exactly) when you'll be ovulating during each cycle.
I recommend this book to women who have trouble conceiving, to women who have highly irregular cycles, and to any woman with ovaries and a uterus. Pretty much, every woman should read this book, whether she intends to use FAM or not. Most of us don't know how our bodies work, maybe because we never fully learned, and maybe because we don't clearly remember fifth grade. My husband also read the book and thinks that all husbands and fathers of daughters should read it as well.
Funniest thing... The day after I posted this Kurt's grandma gave me her "you should try" old wives tale. Something about douching with baking soda for a boy and douching with vinegar for a girl. I don't even now what douching really is. ;)
I read an article that Yoga should work.
